Location Pico island, Portugal

GO CLIMB Azores

A challenging hiking expedition to reach the summit of Pico de Vara, the highest peak in Portugal, offers an exhilarating adventure suitable for discerning travelers who appreciate natural beauty and outdoor pursuits. This strenuous journey spans approximately seven to nine hours, providing a rewarding experience for those seeking thrilling escapades in nature.

Join us on this exhilarating expedition to the summit of Pico Mountain! This remarkable experience awaits individuals eager for an unparalleled outdoor adventure, regardless of their prior mountaineering experience. Our official meeting point will be located at Casa da Montanha, situated at 1200 meters altitude, from which we will commence our ascent.

Upon arrival, we will provide a comprehensive briefing to all participants, ensuring they possess the requisite equipment and are physically prepared for the challenge ahead. We will distribute locator devices to facilitate navigation throughout the course of our journey, which spans approximately 7 hours, covering a distance of 2351 meters.

The designated route is approximately 8 kilometers in length and primarily traverses volcanic rock, featuring an average gradient of 30%. The ascent is anticipated to be both demanding and rewarding, with varying levels of elevation changes along the path. A portion of the return journey maintains the same approximate length but introduces slight variations at altitudes exceeding 2000 meters.

We will depart from the western slopes of Pico Mountain, commencing the first stage of our journey within 20-30 minutes. Participants should be cautious of rapid changes in respiratory patterns and maintain balance to avoid potential hazards. Subsequent stages encompass areas characterized by horizontal walking and slippery terrains; however, these segments necessitate heightened concentration and caution.

Upon reaching 2200 meters, we shall pause briefly in the crater for respite before embarking on the final ascent to the summit. At this point, the Piquinho Lava Cone emerges prominently, offering a glimpse into its imposing nature. Guides will lead the climber through this section with meticulous care and safety, emphasizing the strategic positioning and unique geological features of this landmark.

The final stretch of the ascent concludes with a tranquil period at the summit's peak, allowing ample opportunity to absorb the breathtaking vista and revel in the accomplishment. Descending back to Casa da Montanha, the descent offers continuous muscle engagement and serves as a reminder of the strenuous effort expended earlier in the day.

Upon returning to our base camp, the enduring sense of achievement will linger until the last breath, symbolizing the immense possibilities one can achieve with perseverance and determination. Should you feel confident enough, join us in the pursuit of this unforgettable experience today!.
