Durmitor National Park, Zabljak, Montenegro
Explore the serene beauty of nature on this cycling tour from Black and Zminje to Barno and Jablan Lake. Delve into the tranquil atmosphere as you traverse through diverse landscapes, each lake offering its own unique charm.
The majority of this mountain biking tour consists of single trails, perfectly suited for adventurous cyclists who appreciate the thrill of navigating rugged terrain. Commencing from Zabljak, we proceed to a nearby settlement named Razvrsje, offering breathtaking views of Durmitor Mountain, Savin Kuk, and Međed peaks.
Subsequently, we traverse a magnificent forest trail leading to Black Lake. Characterized by its narrow nature and predominantly downhill incline, this trail is ideal for seasoned riders!
Upon reaching Black Lake, we embark upon an uphill journey, traversing a forest path alongside the Mlinski Potok (Mill Spring).
This segment of the route is characterized by its narrowness and occasional demand. In certain areas, the ground may become muddy due to recent rainfall or moisture levels, presenting challenges for both beginners and experienced riders alike.
Additionally, this portion of the trail offers tranquility amidst birdsong; however, thirty years ago, it featured a wider path teeming with shepherds and their livestock.
As we approach Zminje Lake, nestled amongst verdant trees, we witness a mesmerizing array of dragonflies and the serene ambiance typical of rural landscapes.
Continuing our ascent, we venture back onto the macadam road, eventually arriving at Bosaca Village. This charming hamlet stands high above the region, making it the highest point within the Balkan Peninsula.
Following the macadam road into the dense forest, we ascend towards Stuoc. Upon arrival, we are rewarded with an expansive panoramic view of Durmitor Mountain and the picturesque setting of Zabljak.
Our journey continues as we head towards Crvena Greda and a secluded lake known as Jablan Lake. Here, we offer two distinct options:
Option 1: We follow the asphalt road, descending approximately 15 minutes later to a vast meadow called Poljana, providing a spectacular vista of Durmitor Mountain. From there, we make our way to Barno Lake.
Option 2: For those seeking an adrenaline rush, we recommend taking a steep, downhill forest path. This descent through the narrow, forest path could involve rocky and steep sections. At the end, we arrive at Bosaća Village and the asphalt road before reaching Barno Lake.
Finally, Barno Lake, despite its relatively modest size, boasts stunning surroundings and a captivating view of Durmitor Mountain. Located in a meadow, it is enveloped by lush forests, making it a prime spot for relaxation and appreciation of natural beauty.
Join us on this adventure and discover the unique charm of Barno Lake!.
