Elk Expedition in Brandenburg -Following "Bert"'s traces

Have you heard about "Bert"? He might be the most popular elk in Germany, as he is the only known specimen that decided to become resident. Let's take a walk in his territory and watch out for traces!

Since 2018 male elk "Bert" is wandering around the Nuthe Nieplitz nature park, which is located around 20 km southern of Berlin and Potsdam. He seems to feel quite comfortable here, and - most probably - you will do so as well!

You'll take a walk around the village of Rieben and the reservation area of its pitoresque lake. "Bert" is known to hang around here quite often, so if you are lucky, you might get a chance to see him real life and take a photo of him! While of course there is no guarantee for it (after all he's wandering around wild and freely!), for sure you will learn a lot of information on elks in Brandenburg, the return of wildlife and the unique landscape. The especially designed "Expedition Box" will provide you with useful tools and information to look for "Bert"'s traces.

The route is a round course and approx. 6 kilometers long, so depending on your fitness, it should take you between 1.5 and 2.5 hours of walking. Children of 6 years or older can usually walk this distance too, but please note that the tour material is rather designed for adults.

The fresh air will for sure whet your appetite: and luckily Rieben offers a good country inn with hotel, options to shop fresh local food and a place to camp with your motorhome.
