Visitors are cordially invited to explore the remains of Herculaneum! This once thriving Roman settlement, obliterated by the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, has re-emerged into the annals of history during the 18th century due to expeditions led by the Bourbons. Throughout the centuries, the whereabouts of this ancient Roman metropolis had been forgotten; however, it wasn't until 1710 that a local farmer named Ambrogio Nucerino unearthed numerous precious marble fragments while attempting to water his crops. These discoveries ultimately revealed the existence of an ancient theater from the Roman era.
