Day 1: Departure from Cusco
Upon departure from Cusco by bus, we traverse through scenic valleys of the Andean mountains and picturesque peasant communities en route to our accommodation at Pilcopata Lodge.
For lunch, we indulge in the serene ambiance of the cloud forest, offering a delightful culinary experience amidst lush vegetation.
Continuing our descent, we reach Pilcopata in the afternoon, where we reserve our stay at our lodge.
Day 2: Journey to Aguas Calientes & Boca Manu
Starting our day with a hearty breakfast, we embark on a guided walk through the dense forest, where we can marvel at the diverse wildlife, including monkeys and avian life.
Following a leisurely ride aboard a traditional motorboat, we navigate towards Puerto Atalaya, stopping for relaxation in the thermal waters before enjoying a sumptuous lunch.
Our next destination, Boca Manu, awaits us, where we spend the evening at our lodge.
Day 3: Traveling to the Reserved Area & Machiguenga House
Embarking early, we set off to witness the parrot clay lick. A brief stop at the Limonal Security Checkpoint follows.
Next, we proceed to the core of the Reserved Zone, covering approximately four hours, during which we spend two nights in the rustic Casa Matsiguenka, sharing facilities like communal bathrooms and showers.
Day 4: Exploration of the Reserved Zone
Awakened by the melodious calls of the howler monkeys, we commence our exploration of the expansive Salvador Lake. Here, we seek out giant river otters among myriad other fascinating species.
Following lunch, we venture into the forest for a three-hour hike, uncovering the rich biodiversity of flora and fauna.
Day 5: Hiking & Observation Tower at Lake Otorongo
The day begins with a stroll around our lodge and Otorongo Lake. Our observatory tower, situated 15 meters from the water’s edge, offers breathtaking views of the primary forest landscape, enhancing our opportunities to spot otter families.
Boarding our boat, we journey to Boca Manu where we spend the final night at Amazon Manu Lodge.
Day 6: Return to Cusco
Rising early, we continue our journey back to Puerto Atalaya, awaiting our vehicle's arrival for the remainder of our journey to Cusco, arriving in the late afternoon.
