Day 1: Hiking to Machu Picchu
Your short Alpaca Expeditions Inca Trail tour commences with you being picked up from your hotel between 4:00 AM and 4:30 AM. Following this, you will proceed to the train station, boarding the 6:40 a.m. train departing from Ollantaytambo. The trail then proceeds along the Urubamba River, culminating at Kilometer 104, where you commence your hike. Throughout your journey, you will be captivated by stunning vistas of fertile fields, snow-covered peaks, and the majestic Urubamba River.
As you venture further, you will encounter the enchanting Wiñay Wayna site, a renowned Incan architectural marvel situated at 2,600 meters above sea level. This picturesque location offers visitors a glimpse into the intricate water systems, religious structures, and farming terraces characteristic of the Inca civilization.
Following your strenuous hike lasting three hours, you shall arrive at Alpaca Expeditions' campsite, reserved exclusively for those choosing to undertake the Classic Inca Trail route. Here, you may relish a homemade lunch prepared by the experienced chefs of Alpaca Expeditions, served fresh upon arrival.
Proceeding from Wiñay Wayna, you will traverse towards the iconic Sun Gate. Post exploration, you will board the bus bound for Aguas Calientes, where you will disembark after spending a leisurely afternoon enjoying the local attractions. Ensure to secure your return train ticket, as departure from Ollantaytambo is scheduled for that same day.
Upon reaching the station in Ollantaytambo, Alpaca Expeditions staff will facilitate your transportation back to Cusco, where you will be dropped off at your accommodation.
Day 2: Exploring Machu Picchu and Return Journey
Rise early today to witness the captivating sunrise at Machu Picchu. Your guided visit by an expert English-speaking Alpaca Expeditions guide will last approximately two hours, offering insights into the rich history and cultural significance of the site.
Post your informative tour, allow ample time for independent exploration of Machu Picchu. Should you possess a ticket for Huayna Picchu, allocate time for its ascent, which spans approximately an hour and a half round-trip. Upon concluding your visit, consider embarking on a leisurely bus ride or opt for a stroll through the town center, returning to Aguas Calientes for a free afternoon.
Ensure to seize your train ticket, as travel to Ollantaytambo is planned for that afternoon. Once in Ollantaytambo, Alpaca Expeditions representatives will assist with transportation back to Cusco, where you will be met promptly at your accommodations.
