Amaru explorer SAC

In ancient Incan times, the indigenous Quechua people utilized natural plant fibers to construct suspension bridges that served as vital links between various communities. Among these structures, Q'eswachaka stands out as the most enduring example, having been meticulously maintained annually since its construction.

The Inca era witnessed the creation of intricate hanging bridges constructed from plant fibers throughout the Andean region. Among these remarkable structures is the Q’eswachaka, the final surviving Inca suspension bridge, preserved annually for cultural and ancestral traditions. This restoration process commences with the utilization of q’oya, a resilient vegetable fiber integral to its construction. Throughout the three-day ritualistic activity, families engage collectively, participating fully in each step. Initiated on the morning of the second day, the ceremony culminates with offerings dedicated to Pachamama and the Apus.

We commence our journey by picking you up from your accommodation (either within the vicinity or at the heart of Cusco's historic center), set to depart at 05:00. Our itinerary begins with an excursion to four lagoons situated along the southern edge of Cusco, encompassing the first phase of our tour.

Next, we proceed to explore the village of Yanaoca, where we will ascend to the Pabellones Volcano. Following this, we make our way to the Last Inca Bridge, where we shall receive detailed explanations regarding the ongoing preservation of this ancient tradition.

Our route then takes us through the colonial bridge of Checacupe, allowing us to contrast the modern structure with its historical predecessor. As we return to Cusco, the bus will drop us off near the city’s historical core.

Throughout this comprehensive exploration, we aim to preserve the rich tapestry of Incan heritage while celebrating its enduring significance.
