Day 1:
Starting from Tirana, we embark on a three-hour scenic drive towards Gjirokaster, situated in the southern region of Albania. Upon arrival, we commence our exploration of the historic town center, known as the Old Town. Here, we discover the Old Bazaar, a UNESCO-listed site dating back to the seventeenth century, renowned for its array of souvenir shops, bars, and restaurants operated by local families for generations.
Following this, we proceed to Gjirokaster Fortress, perched atop a hill offering panoramic views of the surrounding area. From here, we continue our journey towards the Blue Eye, a breathtaking natural wonder nestled amidst verdant parklands. To witness the grandeur of the Blue Eye, visitors must traverse the expansive parkland before reaching the iconic spring.
Throughout the day, our itinerary extends to the Albanian Riviera, concluding with a stay in Himara, a picturesque coastal city on the Ionian Sea. Our evening concludes with a brief detour to Zvernec Island, an enchanting destination characterized by its dense stands of pines. The island features a significant Byzantine monastery, the Zvërnec Monastery, which dates back to the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries and offers a serene retreat amidst nature.
Day 2:
Upon returning to Tirana, we make a leisurely stop at Llogara National Park, traversing the stunning landscapes that showcase the beauty of the Albanian Riviera and the Ionian Sea. Following our departure from Himara, we set off towards Tirana, passing by the charming village of Zverneci Island. Located near a lesser-known islet, this tranquil haven is connected to the mainland via a substantial wooden bridge measuring approximately 270 meters in length.
