Park Description
Tanzania's renowned Selous Game Reserve offers one of Africa's most extensive populations of elephants and numerous predators such as lions, leopards, African hunting dogs, buffalo, and hippos. Commonly sighted species include bushbucks, red and blue duikers, elands, hartebeests, hyenas, giraffes, oryx, reedbucks, impalas, waterbucks, and zebras.
Day 1: Arrival & Early Morning Safari
Starting your journey from Dar es Salaam, head south towards the Selous Game Reserve via a 5 to 6-hour drive. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch approximately 16h00, followed by a sunset boat safari on the great Rufiji River. Expect to spot hippos, crocodiles, and various bird species during this serene outing.
Day 2: Full Day Game Drive
Upon waking up early, set out for a full-day game drive within the Selous Game Reserve. Explore the diverse wildlife surrounding the reserve, encountering elephants, giraffes, lions, buffalos, zebras, and occasionally, elusive African wild dogs. Enjoy a picnic lunch midday before returning to your accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Return Journey
Depart the Selous Game Reserve with an early morning walk safari starting at 6 am or 6.30 am, led by an armed ranger. This guided excursion lasts approximately 2-3 hours, providing ample opportunity to observe the abundant wildlife. Following breakfast, proceed to check out and commence the drive back to Dar es Salaam, concluding your adventure at your chosen hotel or airport.
