Virunga National Park offers visitors the opportunity to engage in gorilla trekking and participate in active volcano treks. Staying overnight at Nyiragongo's summit provides an unforgettable experience. Observing and listening to the volcanic activity adds to the unique adventure.



Day 1:
Upon departure from Kigali, Rwanda, guests will be met by a representative from Virunga National Park, ensuring they make their way to Grande Barrière Border Crossing at 11:00 AM. Following customs clearance, visitors will proceed to the Virunga NP Tourism Office located adjacent to the passport control area. Upon successful registration, guests will then be transferred to Kibumba, Virunga NP.

Day 2:
Following breakfast at Kibumba Tented Camp, guests will embark on a guided tour for gorilla trekking. This activity typically lasts between 2-8 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family and the type of terrain encountered. During this period, guests may spend approximately 1 hour with the gorillas, after which they will return to the camp for a hearty lunch. The remainder of the day offers free time for nature walks and birdwatching activities. Guests will stay at Kibumba Tented Camp or a comparable establishment throughout the night.

Day 3:
On Day 3, guests will undertake a challenging expedition to Mount Nyiragongo, situated within Virunga National Park, Democratic Republic of Congo. Early morning starts at 8:15 AM, with guests arriving at Kibati Ranger Post for a briefing session. Porters will be hired upon arrival, and the ascent begins at around 4-6 hours. The summit provides panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including Lake Kivu and its volcanic features.

Day 4:
Descending from the summit of Mount Nyiragongo, guests will continue their journey towards Kibati. The descent takes approximately 4 hours, and once reaching the base, guests will proceed to Goma for final checks with Virunga National Park and border clearance. Departure from the park marks the conclusion of both the gorilla trekking and Nyiragongo active volcano trekking experiences. Guests will be dropped off at their designated locations in Kigali, Rwanda, signifying the end of their adventure.
