Day 01: Arrival at Paro – Thimphu
Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, guests are greeted by our dedicated guide who accompanies them throughout their stay. Following the airport transfer, they proceed to Thimphu, approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes from the airport. Upon reaching Thimphu, visitors can explore several notable sites:
1. National Memorial: Commemorating the life of the third King, this monument was constructed in 1974 by His Majesty Queen Mother Ashi Phuntsho.
2. Bhutan Postal Museum: A fascinating collection of stamps showcasing Bhutan’s rich postal history and cultural heritage.
3. Crafts Bazaar: Here, visitors can purchase authentic Bhutanese handicrafts, offering a unique shopping experience.
4. Archery Ground: Experience the traditional Bhutanese sport of archery firsthand.
5. Tashichodzong: Known as the “Fortress of Glorious Religion,” this historic fortress served as the seat of the Bhutanese monarchy before being renamed Tashichho Dzong.
Guests will overnight in Thimphu.
Day 02: Thimphu – Paro
Starting the second day with breakfast, travelers will visit the iconic Dordenma Buddha Statue atop a hill in Thimphu. This colossal golden Buddha offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
Next, they will visit the Motithang Takin Preserve, often referred to as the Mini Zoo due to its relatively small size. This area serves as a sanctuary for the endangered takin, Bhutan’s national mammal.
Visitors can also learn about the Paper Factory, where traditional Bhutanese paper is produced using ancient techniques passed down through generations.
A picturesque drive leads to Dochula Pass, situated just outside Thimphu. Despite its short distance of approximately 40 minutes, Dochula Pass is well-worth visiting, particularly for those interested in exploring Thimphu’s diverse landscapes.
Returning to Thimphu, guests will enjoy strolling through the bustling Paro Market, experiencing the vibrant local culture and daily life.
Day 03: Paro
Embark on a full-day exploration of Paro’s highlights. Visitors can start their journey at the Taktsang Monastery, a remarkable wooden structure perched precariously on a cliffside. According to legend, Guru Rinpoche flew to this location on the back of a tiger and founded this monastery during his 8th-century Buddhist mission to Bhutan.
Another significant site is Rinpung Dzong, a prominent dzong located below the Rinpung Dzong complex. Renowned for its historical significance, Rinpung Dzong played a crucial role in protecting Paro against Tibetan invasions.
Afterward, visitors may opt to taste the locally brewed Namgay Artisanal Brewery, enjoying a variety of craft beers.
On Day 04: Departure
The final day begins with a morning drive to the airport, where guests embark on their onward journeys after concluding their trip in Bhutan.
