The 7-day Rongai route offers access to Mount Kilimanjaro from the northern direction, situated near the Kenyan border. Despite its growing popularity among climbers, this route remains relatively less crowded.
Trekking Through Mount Kilimanjaro
Arriving in Tanzania, guests are picked up from the Kilimanjaro International Airport and transported to their designated accommodation in Moshi Town. Upon arrival, they are met by their experienced guide, who provides comprehensive instructions for the upcoming expedition.
Following breakfast, the group embarks on a 2-3-hour journey via road to Rongai Gate. There, they commence their trek on a winding path through expansive fields, gradually entering the montane forest. As they approach Simba Camp, boasting breathtaking views of the Kenyan plains, they begin their ascent to Simba Camp.
The next morning, travelers ascend steadily toward the second cave, stopping for lunch en route. They then venture onto a smaller path to the Mawenzi side peak, eventually reaching Kikelewa Camp in a sheltered valley. There, they settle for their evening meal and prepare for bed.
On Day 4, they undertake a short, steep climb to the Mawenzi Tarn Camp. Following this, they traverse the Mawenzi turn hut camp, enjoying a delightful lunch amidst the stunning backdrop of the lake and its outlet. Dinner and overnight stay ensue at this picturesque location.
To acclimate further, guests enjoy a leisurely day spent at Mawenzi Tarn, followed by a visit to the Kibo Huts camp for a restful night.
On Day 6, they relax and prepare for their summit attempt. In the morning, they embark on a challenging ascent to Uhuru Peak, aiming to reach it before dawn. They descend steeply from Gilman's Point, capturing panoramic views of the crater and its surrounding ice caps. Afterward, they return to Kibo Huts, partake in a hearty meal, rest, and continue descending to Horombo Huts.
In the final days, they travel through the lush forests and moorlands, ending their trek at Marangu Gate, where they sign out and board a vehicle for their journey back to the hotel for a celebratory ceremony.
