Trip Description
The trip commences on day one at 07:00 at the hotel located in San Pedro de Atacama.
Day 1:
Upon arrival, guests will be picked up at their accommodation and transferred via minibus to the border with Bolivia. Post-border formalities, they will then proceed aboard a 4x4 vehicle. During the expedition, participants will explore various natural landmarks such as Laguna Blanca, Laguna Verde, the Salvador Dali Desert, Polques Hot Springs (including time for swimming), and Sol de Mañana Geysers. Upon concluding their exploration at Laguna Colorada—a flamingo sanctuary—participants will settle into the Villamar Refuge.
Day 2:
After breakfast, guests will embark on a journey towards Tomás Lakha, where they can marvel at pre-Inca cave paintings. Following this, they will venture through Italia Perdida, an intriguing site featuring volcanic rock formations resembling an ancient metropolis. Next, they will traverse picturesque Vintos and Cataratas Lagoas, providing opportunities to hike and observe the distinctive flora of the Bolivian Altiplano. Subsequently, they will explore Anaconda and Sora Canyons before reaching the imposing Chiguana Salt Flat. On returning to Colcha K, guests will spend the second night in the accommodations.
Day 3:
On the morning of the third day, guests will commence their final segment of the tour with the awe-inspiring sight of the rising sun across the Salar de Uyuni. Following this remarkable experience, they will travel to Incahuasi Island, a limestone formation situated amidst the salt flats, allowing them to gain a different perspective on the expansive landscape. They will continue their journey to the Salt Museum and Colchani Town, ultimately departing the salt flats. At Uyuni, they will bid farewell to their guides and drivers who accompanied them throughout the preceding three days. Guests will enjoy a leisurely lunch in the evening followed by exploration of the town. Before embarking on their return trip, they will meet their new driver for the journey back to San Pedro de Atacama. There will be a stopover in Villamar for dinner and overnight accommodation.
Day 4:
To conclude the adventure, guests will wake up early in the morning to initiate their return journey to the border between Chile and Bolivia. After successfully completing the required formalities, they will switch vehicles once more to board a minibus bound for San Pedro de Atacama. This marks the conclusion of their exciting tour of the Salar de Uyuni.
Altiplanic Winter:
In the months of January through April, the climate exhibits a distinct pattern referred to as altiplanic winter. Characterized by frequent rainfall within the central Andes region, this seasonal phenomenon necessitates adjustments to the itinerary. Specifically, the second night's accommodation is scheduled in a hostel in Uyuni, avoiding visits to Incahuasi Island due to its increased likelihood of encountering heavy rains during this period.
