Our tour leads you to explore one of the most picturesque gorges in Armenia: the Gorge of Qasakh River. This gorge is renowned for its stunningly beautiful churches located atop cliffs, both of which date back to the 13th Century and were constructed by the same noble family.
The tour commences with a visit to Saghmosavank, known for its unique charm. This monastery, founded in the 4th Century by Saint Gregory the Illuminator, boasts a particularly significant structure—the Basilica Church of St John the Baptist. This historic site features a 4th Century basilica dedicated to St John the Baptist, who was originally laid to rest here by the saint himself.
Following Saghmosavank, we proceed to Hovhannavank, approximately 5 kilometers southeast of Saghmosavank. The complex encompasses the aforementioned Basilica Church of St John the Baptist. On our journey, we'll pause at the Alley of the Alphabet, offering visitors the opportunity to locate their initial letters and capture memorable photographs against the backdrop of these ancient landmarks.
Armenian, being a highly revered language, has a rich history dating back over two thousand years. It stands out among Indo-European languages due to its uniqueness, making it distinctly different from others.
| Highlights | Mount Aragats offers breathtaking vistas, while the unique fortress of Amberd can be explored at an elevation of 2300 meters above sea level. Visitors can also admire the stunning monasteries of Saghmosavank and Hovhanavank, which stand majestically on the cliff's edge. |
