Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Paro, Transfer to Thimphu
Paro, situated at an elevation of 2,250 meters (7,382 feet), serves as the starting point of your journey through Bhutan’s picturesque valley. Known for its rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes, this region offers a glimpse into Bhutan’s unique identity. Here’s a brief overview of the initial stages of the Bhutan Magical Tour:
- Breakfast: Enjoy your first meal upon arrival in Paro.
- Exploration: Begin your tour with a visit to Pangri Zampa Monastery, followed by a visit to Bhutan’s Heritage Museum. Next, explore Zorig Chusum, also referred to as the Arts & Crafts School or Painting School. Visit Buddha Point, the country’s largest Buddha statue, offering panoramic views of the Thimphu Valley. Then, proceed to Tashichho Dzong, the “Fortress of the Glorious Religion.” Lastly, take a drive to Punakha.
Day 2: Sightseeing in Thimphu, Drive to Punakha
Start your second day with a hearty breakfast in Thimphu, the capital city. Your itinerary includes visiting key sites like Punakha Dzong, Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, Talo Village, Nalanda Buddhist College, and Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang. Afterward, head to Punakha. During the drive from Thimphu to Punakha, stop at Kyichu Lhakhang, where you can learn about the history and significance of Buddhism introduced to Bhutan by King Songtsen Gampo. Upon arrival in Punakha, enjoy a delightful breakfast and then proceed to your accommodation.
Day 3: Sightseeing of Punakha Valley
Your next morning begins with a sumptuous breakfast in Punakha. Explore Punakha Dzong, one of the most iconic structures in Bhutan. Next, visit Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a historic monument reflecting Bhutanese architectural traditions. Continue to Talo Village, a charming settlement known for its traditional architecture and local crafts. Proceed to Nalanda Buddhist College, a prominent educational institution in Bhutan. Finally, visit Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang, another important religious site. After completing these excursions, return to Paro in the evening.
Day 4: Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Takshang)
The fourth day starts with a leisurely breakfast. Set off towards Satsam Chorten, en route stopping at the 7th-century Kyichu Lhakhang, a holy temple symbolizing the introduction of Buddhism to Bhutan. As you reach the trailhead, begin your ascent to Taktshang Monastery, perched 900 meters above the Paro valley floor on a cliffside. According to legend, Guru Rinpoche arrived here on a tigress, meditated at this sacred site, and earned it the name ‘Tiger’s Nest.’ This pilgrimage site is considered a must-visit for every Bhutanese individual during their lifetime.
Post-meditation, rest at the base of the monastery before continuing your descent. For those interested in further exploration, consider visiting nearby attractions such as Pemayangtse Waterfall or the National Memorial Chorten. Ensure adequate preparation for the hike; it takes approximately four to five hours for the round trip, requiring moderate physical fitness.
Day 5: Departure to Paro Airport
