Karangasem regency, Indonesia
This itinerary offers three days and two nights of exploration through the breathtaking scenery of Mount Rinjani's craggy terrain. Participants ascend to the volcano's peak, where they can witness both the setting sun and the rising sun over its active crater.
On Day 1:
At 07:00 AM, after an early breakfast, we departed Senaru and embarked on a journey via 4WD vehicle towards Sembalun. Upon arrival at the Rinjani Trek Centre in Sembalun (1,156 m), we registered and commenced our trek. Initially, the trail traversed undulating open grasslands, winding its way upward. We paused at Pos 1 and Pos 2 for rest breaks and snack refreshments. At Pos 3 (1,800 m), we took a significant break for lunch. Following lunch, we began ascending steeply towards the crater rim. Our final resting place was at Sembalun Crater Rim (2,639 m), offering panoramic views of the sunset, Lake Segara Anak, the summit of Mount Rinjani, and the northern Lombok region.
On Day 2:
Awakening at 3 AM for a light breakfast, we embarked upon a strenuous three-hour trek to the summit (3,726 m). The optimal viewing period coincided with sunrise, allowing us to appreciate the breathtaking vistas. Upon reaching the summit, we enjoyed the stunning views. On descending back to our campsite, we savor a hot breakfast and take a rest before resuming our journey down into the crater. Lunch was taken at Lake Segara Anak (2,000 m), where swimming in the hot springs offered a refreshing experience. Continuing along the lakeshore, we ascended further before finally exiting the crater. The trail became steeper and more rugged as we ventured through dense forest. Near the Senaru Crater Rim (2,641 m), we stopped for dinner and set up camp for the night. From this location, we could observe Mount Agung in Bali and the Gili Islands.
On Day 3:
Starting our descent of the mountain, we utilized the rest spots of Pos 3, Pos 2, and Pos 1, taking extended breaks for lunch en route. As we descended deeper into the forest, the terrain grew progressively denser and richer. Arriving in Senaru (601 m) around 1 PM marked the end of our trek.
