Delphi Archaeological Site, Athens, Greece
This tour offers an exclusive experience for devotees of military history and cinephiles who have enjoyed the blockbuster film "The 300." Participants will embark on a small-group journey that delves deeply into ancient Greek military traditions through visits to Delphi and the iconic Corycian Cave. This tour stands out from others due to its unique blend of historical exploration and cinematic immersion, ensuring visitors uncover hidden gems within the archaeological sites that are rarely accessible to broader audiences.
Starting our journey from Athens, we traverse through scenic landscapes along the route. Along this route, we shall encounter Marathon, the origin of the legendary marathon race. In parallel, we will also explore the historic city of Thiva, where according to Aeschylus' play "Oedipus Rex," Oedipus was said to have killed his own father.
Our next destination is the charming Ski Resort Village of Arachova, which offers breathtaking views during our stay here. After our excursion into Arachova, we proceed towards Delphi, renowned for its rich history and numerous attractions.
Upon arrival in Delphi, we have two hours allocated for exploration. First, we will visit the archaeological site and museum, followed by the Temple of Athena Tholos Monument. Next, we will explore Kastalia, the sacred spring believed to possess healing properties. Lastly, we will visit the Gymnasium, an essential part of ancient Greek education.
For lunch, we plan to enjoy a splendid vista overlooking the Delphi Riviera and the largest grove of olive trees in Greece.
Following lunch, we embark on an off-road adventure at an elevation of approximately 1400 meters above sea level. Here, we will pay homage to the Corycian Cave, the first oracle since 4000 BC. Although the cave has not been fully excavated, we will gain valuable insights into the Oracle's significance in ancient Greek society.
Our final destination is Thermopylae, also known as the "Hot Gates." We will commence our ascent up the mountain to witness the battlefield viewed from high atop the terrain. Upon reaching the summit, we will uncover the remnants of the Ancient Hot Gates and the memorial dedicated to King Leonidas and his 300 Spartans who fought valiantly against Persian invaders.
While in Delphi, visitors are not permitted to accompany us as guides; however, I will provide a comprehensive guidebook detailing the myths, historical events, religious beliefs, immortality of the soul, and scientific advancements associated with ancient Greece.
To enhance our experience, wear comfortable footwear as we venture into the mystical realm of mythology.
