Mount Qingcheng, Chengdu, China
Explore two designated UNESCO World Heritage sites during a day trip: ascend Forested Mount, which serves as the spiritual hub of Taoism; marvel at the ancient architectural wonders of the nearby Palaces and Temples; admire the serene beauty of the surrounding Lake; subsequently, delve into the historical legacy of the Dujiangyan Irrigation Project, recognized as the world’s oldest non-dam water management system.
Upon departure from the downtown Chengdu hotel, guests will embark on a private, air-conditioned vehicle guided tour to Mount Qingcheng, one of China's foremost Taoist sites. This scenic destination, featured prominently in the animated film "Kung Fu Panda 3," offers a picturesque setting for exploration.
Arriving at the site, visitors can commence their journey via electric karts to reach the entrance, followed by a trek up to the Moon City Lake and a cable car ascent to Shangqing Palace, a notable architectural feature. Perched atop a height of 3,280 feet (1,000 meters) during the Jin Dynasty period (265 AD - 420 AD), this intricate complex comprises serene temples and an ancient ginkgo tree, showcasing a rich history.
Continuing onward, hikers can visit the enchanting Laojun Pavilion, appreciating the breathtaking vistas from this vantage point overlooking the nearby Dujiangyan city. Afterward, descend to a local restaurant for lunch, followed by a visit to the Qinyan Pavilion, offering panoramic views of the Dujiangyan irrigation project.
The tour concludes as guests traverse down by foot and cable car, admiring the expansive scale of the world's oldest and only surviving non-dam irrigation system, designed three centuries ago. Visitors can then proceed to the Erwang Temple (Two Kings Temple), located on the banks of the Minjiang, honoring the creators of this engineering marvel.
From there, cross the Anlan Suspension Bridge to observe two key sections of Dujiangyan—Fish Mouth Weir and Bottle-Neck Channel. These features illustrate the ingenious design of the irrigation system, guiding the river waters towards the surrounding farmlands. Finally, stroll through Lidui Park and enjoy the beauty of the bonsai gardens before concluding the tour back at the initial pick-up point.
