NamoBuddha Balthali Hike

Embark on a journey through time-honored pathways, surrounded by prayer flags, and immerse yourself in a tapestry of cultural treasures, featuring monasteries and traditional villages.

One of the most revered pilgrimage sites in the Buddhist tradition stands approximately 40 kilometers west of Kathmandu. According to ancient lore, a youthful prince named Mahasattva, often depicted as an incarnation of the Buddha, witnessed a tigress nursing five newborn cubs while he walked through the dense forest with his siblings. Impelled by compassion, Mahasattva severed portions of his own body to feed the starving tigress and her offspring. Subsequently, only skeletal remains were unearthed during subsequent searches.

Upon discovering this site, local artisans constructed a stupacalled Namo Buddha atop the remnants. Key attractions along the Khopasi-Balthali hike include expansive terraced rice paddies, enchanting Newari settlements, panoramic vistas of snow-capped peaks, serene Buddhist monasteries, and lush forests. Balthali, nestled among the fertile valleys beyond the Kathmandu Valley, retains its traditional customs and culture, untouched by contemporary influences. Our journey commences at Batase Danda, where we embark upon a trek through both human communities and natural landscapes.
