Excursion to the caves of Santa Maria di Leuca

Starting from "Vecchio Vecchio," located within Santa Maria di Leuca, visitors can explore some of the most captivating caves along either the Adriatic or Ionian coast.

Starting from the tourist port of Santa Maria di Leuca, this tour leads us through scenic landscapes, ultimately reaching the captivating underwater world surrounding the Bay of Santa Maria di Leuca. We skirt Punta Meliso, home to the Basilica Santa Maria de Finibus Terrae, the Lighthouse of Leuca, and the monumental staircase, while observing the architectural marvels of the nineteenth-century villas and the iconic "Bagnarole," a testament to the craftsmanship of the Camerini family ensuring privacy for women's baths at sea.

The Adriatic itinerary begins with a brief detour at Cazzafri Grotta, then proceeds to explore the Cave Terraico, Verduselle, Cave del Voffio, and Grotta della Vora. To fully appreciate the beauty of these natural formations, we'll pause for a swim beneath the cliffs and venture deep into the caves.

Transitioning to the Ionian coast, our journey continues as we encounter the Porcinara cave near Punta Ristola, immediately followed by the Devil Grotto. The route unfolds with visits to the Cave del Fiume, Grotta delle Tre Porte, the Cave dei Giganti, the Stable Cave, and the Majestic Cave of the Dragon. On the Ionian side, there is also an opportunity to relax in crystal-clear waters.

This expedition offers visitors the chance to experience a unique blend of maritime and geological wonders, culminating in a visit to either the eastern or western shore of the region, depending on the skipper's preference.
