From Zagora, 2-Day Desert Tour to Erg Chegaga

A two-day journey to Erg Chegaga in the southern region of Morocco commences from Zagora. This itinerary includes exploring the local ceramic craftsmanship of Tamgrout as well as immersing oneself in the rich cultural heritage through poetry. Participants will also engage in an authentic experience by taking part in camel rides amidst the vast expanse of sand dunes, concluding with an overnight stay within a desert camp.

Day 1: Zagora – Tamegroute – Erg Chegaga

Upon arrival at the designated pickup point, guests will board a specialized 4x4 vehicle equipped with ample seating capacity. This vehicle will transport them to Tamegroute, a charming village nestled within the Draa Valley, renowned for its ceramic workshops. En route, visitors can marvel at the historical significance of this ancient site, which dates back to the 17th century and boasts intricate architectural features worthy of exploration.

Following a leisurely afternoon spent exploring the village’s rich cultural heritage, travelers will proceed towards Mhamid, situated amidst the vast expanse of the Draa Valley. Here, they will partake in a sumptuous meal, followed by an excursion into the heart of the desert, where the mesmerizing sight of endless palm groves awaits. As evening approaches, the journey culminates at the picturesque Erg Chegaga dunes, where the sun sets beautifully across the expansive sand sea. Upon arrival, participants may opt to exchange their 4x4 vehicles for traditional camel mounts for an unforgettable experience of watching the sun dip below the horizon under the watchful gaze of the dune landscape.

In the late afternoon or early evening, depending on the season, travelers will depart from the desert oasis, returning to Zagora via the scenic Tinfou dunes. Throughout the day, guests will have the opportunity to restock their provisions, enjoy refreshments, and engage in light activities as they prepare for their return journey home.

Day 2: Chegaga – Erg Lihoudi – Zagora

Rising early in the morning, guests will awaken to the enchanting glow of the first rays of sunlight piercing through the thick veil of fog that often blankets the desert sands. Following a refreshing shower and a hearty breakfast, the group will embark upon a journey back towards Zagora, traversing the Tinfou dunes en route. During the course of the day, travelers will be able to relax, engage in conversation, and perhaps indulge in some local crafts or artisanal products available at nearby markets.

Upon reaching Zagora, guests will be greeted by a warm welcome and offered transportation back to their accommodation. From there, the journey concludes, and guests will have the option to unwind, reflect on their experiences, or prepare for the final leg of their adventure.
