Kawiti Glow Worm Cave Tour & Opua Kauri Forest Walk

A knowledgeable local Maori guide will conduct an exploration of subterranean caverns, where visitors can observe glowing lantern-like creatures known as glowworms. Following this, participants may engage in a leisurely 30-minute guided walk through the picturesque Opua Kauri Forest.

Your tour commences at the Waitangi Wharf, where your knowledgeable local guide will transport you to the Kawiti Glowworm Caves within a 12-seat dual-airconditioned minibus. This journey takes approximately 15 minutes.

Upon arrival, our group will embark on a 30-minute guided tour through a 200-meter limestone cave system. Guided by a local Maori guide, you'll traverse a wooden boardwalk with handrails. As you enter the cave, you'll marvel at the sight of thousands of glow worms hanging from the ceiling, their luminescence creating a breathtaking display against the backdrop of stunning stalactites and stalagmites.

Next, we'll make our way to Kawakawa, known for its internationally recognized "Hundertwasser Toilets," a unique structure designed by the renowned Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. These whimsical structures feature recycled materials sourced from the local community.

Following this, we proceed to the newly opened Hundertwasser Cultural Centre, inaugurated in 2020. This center offers visitors the chance to appreciate both Hundertwasser's artistic legacy and traditional Maori arts and crafts.

As our journey concludes, we return to the Wharf via the Waitangi lookout. Here, you'll find prime photographic spots, especially those capturing your vessel moored amidst the bay.
