Historically, Khodjant has been renowned as "The Crown of the World," serving as an ancient metropolis within the region's historical tapestry. It stands out as the largest and most populous urban center in Northern Tajikistan, marking its significance in the broader context of Central Asian history.

Khujand, originally known as Alexandrina Eskhata under Alexander the Great's rule, underwent significant reconstruction and expansion during his reign. Subsequently, the city fell into decline until its rediscovery by the Arab Empire in the VIII century. During this period, Khujand faced opposition from the Chingiz Khan's forces but ultimately remained intact. In the XIII century, however, the city suffered destruction due to an invasion.

Following this tumultuous history, Khujand experienced a brief revival and emerged as a major commercial, cultural, and scientific hub within the Central Asian region. Today, visitors can explore various historical sites such as the Khujand Central Park, where they may take advantage of a cable car to access newer parts of the city. Notable landmarks include the Alexandria Eskhata fortress, dating back to the VII-VIII centuries, and the Archeology Museum, which houses artifacts from ancient civilizations.
