Bet Giyorgis, Lalibela, Lalibela, Ethiopia
A seasoned local guide will unveil the profound history spanning over nine centuries hidden within the sacred structures of Lalibela's churches. Visitors will embark on an enriching journey to Ashete, where they can immerse themselves in the authentic lifestyle of local farmers, interact with them, and engage in traditional activities firsthand. This immersive experience promises to provide a comprehensive understanding of the region's rich cultural heritage.
Upon your arrival at the airport, one of our professional guides will warmly greet you and escort you to your accommodation in a shared vehicle. Following the check-in process, you will embark on an exhilarating journey through the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela. This first day begins with a visit to the North-Western cluster, comprising five awe-inspiring churches, where you may enjoy lunch at one of the city’s finest eateries. In the afternoon, proceed to the South-Eastern cluster, featuring five additional stunning churches. Your final destination is Bet Giyorgis, Lalibela’s most renowned church, a testament to Saint George’s devotion. You will stay overnight at your luxurious accommodations in Lalibela.
On Day 2, after breakfast, you will depart for a half-day hiking excursion starting right from your lodging. Within approximately 15 minutes, you will reach the outskirts of the town, enveloped by the natural splendor of the surroundings. Ascend the ancient trails leading to the Mountain Monastery of Asheten Maryam. Along the way, stop frequently to appreciate the captivating vistas, while the lush landscapes unfold before you—a mix of fields, charming farming communities, and friendly locals eager to share their stories.
You can choose whether to enter the monastery or simply admire its majestic façade; however, if you decide to venture inside, be prepared for a small entrance fee. Alternatively, explore the serene surroundings of the monastery. Throughout your trek, pause briefly in a quaint village to engage in the Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony, a delightful tradition involving three rounds of tasting, each serving as an educational experience into Ethiopian customs. Our hospitable hosts will enthusiastically demonstrate the coffee-making process, perhaps even sharing homemade injera (a beloved Ethiopian flatbread) during the session. Post-coffee, return to your lodging feeling refreshed and inspired by the rustic charm of the region.
After resting comfortably, consider opting for a unique transportation method: riding atop a mule or donkey to the monastery. Enjoy a leisurely stroll back to Lalibela, reflecting upon the enchanting countryside and gaining insights into the lives of the rural farmers. For those who prefer alternative modes of travel, arrange your departure from the airport with ease, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable farewell.
Throughout both days, our team ensures that every detail aligns with your expectations, providing an unforgettable cultural immersion in Ethiopia.
