Lalibela, Mount. Asheten Half-Day Hiking Adventure

Embark on a journey through picturesque landscapes as you ascend towards the majestic Mount Asheten Maryam. Along the ascent, take time to appreciate the stunning vistas of rolling fields, quaint villages, and friendly local traders.

If your accommodation does not offer breakfast, you will rendezvous with your porter at 7:00 AM in a nearby café, where you shall partake in a hearty meal before embarking upon a half-day trek. Upon arrival, you shall traverse through lush landscapes, ascending steep terraces adorned with ancient monolithic churches and intricate carvings. Your journey shall culminate atop the majestic Mount Saint Mary, commanding panoramic vistas over Lalibela.

Upon reaching the summit, you shall proceed to explore the revered Monastery of Saint Mary. However, should you prefer not to venture into the monastery, the breathtaking scenery shall remain unspoiled. Throughout the ascent, you shall encounter picturesque scenes such as fields of wheat, quaint villages, and enigmatic children. Occasionally, you may spot vendors hawking homemade crafts like dolls, soft drinks, tea, or coffee.

During your journey, you shall participate in a traditional Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony, during which you shall witness three rounds of brewing under the guidance of skilled artisans. Should you desire to delve deeper into Ethiopian culture, the locals shall graciously share their customs and traditions, providing insight into their daily lives. For those who wish to engage further, they shall be more than willing to share their culinary secrets; perhaps, a baker will even demonstrate the art of making injera, Ethiopia’s iconic flatbread, though this activity may depend on the availability of ingredients.

In the late morning, you shall descend back down to Lalibela, likely replete with stories and photographs of the region's serene beauty and its indigenous inhabitants. Alternatively, you may opt to travel via mule or donkey to the monastery, ensuring a unique experience blending cultural exploration with natural wonder.
