Marrakech, Morocco
Embark on a treacherous yet rewarding journey to the summits of Mount Toubkal, the pinnacle of North African terrain, departing from the vibrant city of Marrakech. Delve into an array of experiences, including a picturesque exploration of ancient Berber settlements, an awe-inspiring encounter with cascading waterfalls, and breathtaking panoramas of the majestic Atlas Mountains.
Day 1: Departing from Marrakech, the journey takes us through picturesque landscapes, culminating at the village of Imlil, situated at an elevation of 65 kilometers from the city center. Upon arrival, we engage our guides and multipliers as we commence the challenging trek toward the Tizi Mzik Pass (2,479 meters above sea level). The panoramic vistas of the surrounding valleys and summits provide breathtaking scenery, including the majestic Toubkal Peak. Following this ascent, we proceed to Tamsoult Refuge, located at 2,550 meters, where we spend the night amidst the natural splendor of the juniper forests. Our overnight stay includes approximately five hours of strenuous hiking, covering distances of 11 kilometers, ascending by 800 meters and descending by 400 meters.
Day 2: Today marks a significant milestone in our expedition, characterized by an elevated pace due to the increased altitude. We set out to conquer the Aguelzim Pass at 3,450 meters, a challenging yet rewarding ascent that offers sweeping views of the Toubkal summit. After reaching the top, we descend towards the Toubkal Base Camp, located at 3,200 meters, ensuring a smooth transition into the final leg of our journey. The descent involves a total of six hours, comprising a vertical drop of 1,200 meters and another 300 meters upon return.
Day 3: Early risers awaken for what promises to be one of the most memorable experiences of our adventure. We begin our ascent to the Toubkal peak, commencing from the Toubkal Refuge at 3,207 meters. With clear skies permitting, we shall revel in expansive panoramas of the Atlas mountain range and the vast expanse of the Sahara Desert. A lengthy descent follows, retracing our steps past the refuge and the worn-out paths leading back to Imlil. This day demands approximately eight to nine hours of trekking, encompassing a net ascent of nearly 900 meters and a substantial downhill hike of 2,500 meters. Typically, we arrive in Imlil around 5 p.m., ready to bid farewell to our newfound friends and return to the vibrant city of Marrakech.
