Molde, Atlantic Ocean Road and fishing village Bud

Molde Panorama, Molde, Norway

West Norway Travel

Experience the enchanting allure of the serene fishing village of Bud while embarking on an unforgettable journey along Norway’s magnificent Atlantic Ocean Road. This picturesque coastal route offers a breathtaking array of natural beauty, making it an ideal destination for those seeking tranquility and stunning vistas.

The excursion commences in Molde, serving as the administrative hub of the Romsdal county. This picturesque city stands on the banks of the Romsdal fjord, nestled amidst hills that offer a breathtaking panorama of 222 peaks adorned with perpetual snow. Renowned for its charm, Molde is affectionately referred to as "the Town of Roses" due to the extensive rose nurseries that thrive under the mild climate and rich, fertile soil found on the sunny slopes surrounding the urban landscape. The city retains a serene atmosphere that captivated Henrik Ibsen, leading him to establish residency there.

Following this introduction, our journey unfolds with a visit to some of the region's premier ski resorts. Upon reaching Eide, situated atop the Kornstadfjord, we embark upon the magnificent Atlantic Ocean Road. This engineering feat connects various islands and reefs via a network of bridges, showcasing an architectural masterpiece. Recognized as one of Norway’s most significant construction milestones, the stretch of coastline has been designated as a National Tourist Route, boasting stunning vistas that have earned it acclaim as a tourist destination. We pause for photography opportunities, allowing visitors ample time to capture the awe-inspiring structures and engage in leisurely strolls.

Continuing our exploration, we traverse towards Hustadvika, a captivating expanse of water renowned for its dramatic beauty during rough seas yet less favored by maritime enthusiasts. Encompassing underwater reefs and small islands, this picturesque setting provides ideal conditions for spotting marine life such as seals and whales.

Further inland, we encounter a charming fishing village, Bud, whose elevated position offers panoramic views of the ocean and the Bjørnsund islands. Historically prosperous, these islands now serve as a popular summer resort.

As we return to Molde, our itinerary culminates with a journey through scenic hillsides around the Frænafjord. On the concluding leg of the tour, we ascend to the Varden viewpoint, offering unparalleled vistas over the Romsdalsfjord, the numerous islands lying in its path, and the imposing mountain range on the opposite bank of the fjord.
