The Rinjani Trek offers a three-day, two-night adventure, providing an unparalleled opportunity to ascend to the crater's peak, witness mesmerizing sunsets, and finally reach the summit at sunrise. This iconic trek attracts numerous enthusiasts seeking exhilarating mountaineering experiences.
On Day 1:
At 07:00 AM, after an early breakfast, we departed Senaru and embarked upon a journey via 4WD vehicle towards Sembalun. Upon arrival at the Rinjani Trek Centre in Sembalun (1,156 meters above sea level), we registered for our trek. The trail began its ascent through undulating open grasslands, gradually climbing upwards towards the mountain. We paused at Pos 1 and Pos 2 for rest breaks and snack stops. At Pos 3 (1,800 meters), we took a more extended break for lunch. Following lunch, we commenced the steep climb up the crater rim. Our overnight camping spot was established at Sembalun Crater Rim (2,639 meters above sea level), offering stunning panoramic views including the sunset, Lake Segara Anak, the summit of Mount Rinjani, and the northern Lombok region.
On Day 2:
Awakening at 3 AM for a light breakfast, we set off for a challenging three-hour trek to the summit (3,726 meters above sea level). Arriving in time for sunrise, which provides the optimal conditions for enjoying breathtaking vistas. Upon returning to our campsite atop the crater rim, we enjoyed a hearty hot breakfast and a short rest before embarking on the descent back into the crater. Lunch was taken on the shores of Lake Segara Anak (2,000 meters above sea level), where swimming in the natural hot springs is possible. Continuing our trek around the lakeshore, we then resumed our climb out of the crater. The trail traversed through dense forests, becoming steeper and more rocky. At the Senaru Crater Rim (2,641 meters above sea level), we stopped for dinner and set up camp for the night. From this location, we had splendid views of Lake Segara Anak, the surrounding area, Gunung Baru (a small volcanic cone within the crater of Mount Rinjani), Mount Agung in Bali, and the Gili Islands.
On Day 3:
Following breakfast, we commenced our descent of the mountain, utilizing the resting spots at Pos 3, Pos 2, and Pos 1, taking additional breaks for lunch during the journey. As we descended, the vegetation became denser and greener. By approximately 1 PM, we arrived in Senaru (601 meters above sea level).
