Private Day Trip to Mao's Former Residence- Shaoshan

This tour offers an ideal opportunity to uncover the history of Chairman Mao Zedong, the founding father of the Republic of China. The guide will be met at the hotel lobby at 8:30 am, accompanied by a welcome board bearing your name. Upon arrival, guests will be transported to Shaoshan, home of Chairman Mao (the late Chinese leader), approximately one and a half hours via bus. This journey begins in the picturesque village of Shao Shan Chong, where Mao spent his formative years.

Upon reaching Shaoshan, guests will proceed to Dripping Water Cave, located about three kilometers north-west of the village. Known for its scenic beauty and historical significance, the cave is said to be where Mao pondered over the Cultural Revolution in 1966. During this visit, guests will have the opportunity to explore the villa where Mao resided, including the bedroom, office, and meeting room. A highlight of this experience is sampling Mao's favorite braised pork.

Following the exploration of Dripping Water Cave, guests will proceed to the Chairman Mao bronze statue. This monumental work, crafted by Nanjing Chenguang Factory and meticulously designed by renowned sculptors Liu Kailiang and Cheng Yunxian, offers visitors an insight into the life and times of Chairman Mao. Our knowledgeable guide will provide detailed narratives about the statue's creation and significance.

Next, guests will visit Mao Ancestral Temple, where they will find numerous exhibits reflecting Mao Zedong’s literary contributions and personal possessions. This temple also houses a collection of 100 pieces of Mao’s handwritten manuscripts and 72 items related to his life and works.

After exploring these historical sites, guests will proceed to Mao Zedong’s former residence, where he was born and raised. The house, constructed from mud-brick and tile, provides a glimpse into Mao’s humble beginnings and showcases various household items, furnishings, and artifacts that reflect his involvement in revolutionary activities. This tour concludes with a return to the hotel in Changsha.
