A two-day private tour along the Military Road offers an immersive experience of the Great Caucasus Mountains, ascending to 2,200 meters above sea level, with stops at fortresses, rivers, and passes. Upon reaching the Gergeti Church, visitors will enjoy a breathtaking panoramic vista.

This tour has been meticulously planned to minimize traffic congestion within the Kazbegi tunnel system. Our itinerary spans two days, ensuring efficient travel while avoiding lengthy delays.

Day 1:

We depart from your hotel at 9:00 AM, traveling approximately 150 kilometers northeast of Tbilisi. Upon arrival at the Ananuri Fortress, which stands at 1740 meters above sea level, visitors will spend approximately 45 minutes exploring its rich history and architectural significance.

Following the fortress, we proceed to Pasanauri, where numerous cafes offer a variety of dining options. A recommended alternative is to pack a light lunch and stop at Pasanauri midway through the journey for a taste of Khinkali, Georgia’s traditional dumplings. Post-lunch, we commence the challenging ascent of the Gudauri Ski Resort, culminating at the impressive Monument of Friendship between Georgia and Russia. Here, we pause to admire breathtaking views across the region.

Continuing our ascent, we traverse the Jvari Pass, descending into the picturesque Kazbegi/Stepantsminda valley. Notable landmarks include the Trinity Church of Gergeti, located just beyond the pass. Before reaching Kazbegi, we briefly explore the charming village of Sno, known for its imposing outdoor sculptures.

Upon arrival in Kazbegi, we find ourselves near several local cafes. While enjoying a leisurely stroll, we suggest picnicking beside the Ioane National Mosque for panoramic vistas and ample time to absorb the surroundings.

For those seeking additional adventure, we recommend tackling the Gergeti peak. From the summit, we revel in the snow-covered summits of the Caucasus Range and savor invigorating mountain air.

As evening approaches, we descend to the lower slopes of Dariali Gorge, ascending to a high vantage point overlooking the valley below. Following this ascent, we embark upon the final leg of our journey, descending the military road to the last monastery before crossing the Russian border.

Day 2:

The remainder of the day is entirely dependent on individual preferences. Those eager for hiking opportunities might opt for the Truso Valley, a 6-hour trek, or the Artkhmo Gorge, a more relaxed 3-hour jaunt. Alternatively, if less energetic, we arrange for guided access to the Gudauri Cabins for a panoramic vista.

Hiking enthusiasts should note that this activity is restricted during non-peak seasons. After completing our physical challenges, we undertake a leisurely return trip to Tbilisi. During this phase, we encourage sampling local specialties in Pasanauri, such as the region's renowned cuisine. Depending on time constraints, we may also incorporate a brief stay in the historic city of Mtskheta, home to the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
