Long tan cross, Vietnam
The visitor will make an official pilgrimage to the Long Tan Cross Memorial, during which ample opportunity exists for reflection upon one of the most celebrated Australian military encounters from the Vietnam War: the Battle of Long Tan (1966).
Our driver will rendezvous with you at your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, while our local guide will board the vehicle midway through the journey towards Vung Tau City. Following a three-hour drive, we shall arrive at Long Tan Commune within Dat Do District, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province.
Upon arrival, we will commence our exploration starting from Nui Dat SA.S Hill, where you will witness the helicopter landing zones and campgrounds reserved for military personnel. This site provides an insightful overview of the surrounding area's historical significance during the conflict.
Next, we shall venture into the dense rubber forests, traversing Mong Ngua Mountain, which served as a strategic retreat for Vietnamese soldiers throughout the war.
Continuing our journey, we will proceed to the Long Tan Cross Memorial, dedicated to the fallen soldiers from both Australia and Vietnam. Here, you'll pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice during the conflict.
Following the memorial, we will move onto Long Phuoc Tunnels, one of the most significant archaeological sites associated with the Vietnam War. These tunnels were constructed by the Viet Minh and Viet Cong to facilitate combat operations and provide protection against enemy forces.
As part of our half-day tour, we will conclude our expedition at Long Tan - Nui Dat. Upon returning to Ba Ria, we will enjoy a leisurely lunch at a local restaurant before making our way back to Ho Chi Minh City.
Throughout the day, our knowledgeable guide will share recommendations for traditional dishes from the region, catering to your preferences. Rest assured, upon your return to the city, you will find yourself refreshed and ready for whatever comes next.
