Puerto Maldonado, 4-Day Tambopata Rainforest Tour

Starting the tour with a pick-up from Puerto Maldonado Airport, one begins their journey towards the lush Amazonian landscape. A guide awaits outside the terminal, holding a sign bearing the traveler's name, ensuring easy identification upon arrival.

The group proceeds either by car or boat to their jungle residence situated along the Tambopara River. Upon check-in, they depart for an introductory jungle exploration, walking approximately two kilometers through the dense foliage. During daylight hours, they seek out monkeys, brown agoutis, and butterfly species while learning about the flora and fauna prevalent within the region. As evening descends, they transition to a nocturnal expedition on the river, venturing into the underbrush to track caimans and capybaras.

On Day 2, travelers venture to Lake Sandoval nestled deep within the Tambopata National Reserve. This lake serves as a sanctuary for various bird species, including caimans, turtles, monkeys, and giant otters. Following their excursion, guests return to their accommodations for a brief respite, followed by another night activity. In the late afternoon, the group ventures deeper into the forest during the nighttime, guided by their guide to locate nocturnal creatures such as night monkeys, tarantulas, frogs, insects, and other nocturnal animals.

On Day 3, participants embark on a kayaking adventure, paddling downriver to Monkey Island. Upon disembarking, they engage in a walk aimed at observing the island's inhabitants, specifically seeking out monkeys and engaging in feeding sessions with these primates. Post-lunch, they visit a local indigenous family, gaining insights into their cultural practices and daily lives.

Closing Day 4 with an early start, travelers make their way to the clay lick, where they witness parakeets, parrots, and two species of small macaws. Alongside this observation, they hunt for sloths throughout the morning. Post-breakfast, the group heads to the ideal location for birdwatching, accompanied by their guide who leads them to the perfect vantage point. Subsequently, they participate in piranha sport fishing until noon, after which they board a vehicle or bus to transfer them to the airport or bus station.
