Route of the Sun from Puno to Cusco

Following our arrival at the picturesque La Raya Pass, we pause for photographs capturing the awe-inspiring beauty of this high-altitude region. From here, we proceed to a local culinary establishment known for its sumptuous buffet lunches, replenishing our energy after the arduous journey thus far.

Our next destination is the sacred archaeological site of Raqchi, where remnants of the ancient Temple of the Sun god Wiracocha await discovery. Revered during pre-Columbian times, the cult surrounding this deity remains shrouded in mystery and legend.

After completing our guided tour of Raqchi Archaeological Park, we venture forth to the charming village of Andahuaylillas. In this setting, we encounter the Church of San Pedro Apóstol, often referred to as the “Sistine Chapel of America.” This magnificent edifice holds architectural splendor that will undoubtedly astound even the most discerning visitor.

As we conclude our pilgrimage on the Ruta del Sol, we reach the legendary capital of Peru, Cusco, arriving just before sunset at approximately 5 PM. Upon reaching our designated gathering spot, we complete our unforgettable journey.
