São Jorge Island Tours

São Jorge Island: Exclusive Private Tour for Groups of 1-8 Persons - Comprehensive Overview of the Entire Island: Highlights at Key Points and Sites. Duration: Up to 7 Hours of Pure Natural Beauty.

This itinerary encompasses a series of captivating natural and cultural experiences across the island of São Jorge. We begin our journey from the picturesque town of Velas, continuing towards the prestigious Forest Reserve of Sete Fontes or Parque das Sete Fontes, situated in the town of Rosais. Our exploration here revolves around the breathtaking viewpoints offering panoramic vistas of the neighboring islands and the northern coastline of the island itself.

Following this, we proceed to the renowned Cheese Factory named Unioão das Cooperativas da Beira, which provides an opportunity to sample various aged cheeses. An informative guided tour of the factory is available upon request, with tickets priced at €5 per individual.

Our route then takes us to Norte Grande, passing through the towns of Toledo and Santo António before reaching the charming village of Norte Grande. Here, we discover the Miradouro do Norte Grande, offering a spectacular view of the vast northern coast of the island. In addition to the Miradouro, Norte Grande boasts several beaches including Fajã do Ouvidor and Fajã da Ribeira de Areia, both notable for their significant size and population density, making them vital landmarks within the island's landscape.

The next highlight on our tour is the Vista dos Cubres e Caldeira Santa Catarina, another awe-inspiring location that promises stunning panoramas. Following this, we travel to Calheta, where we encounter the towns of Norte Pequeno and other nearby areas. Upon arrival in Calheta, we pause for lunch, though this option is not included in the standard package.

Next up is the Coffee Plantation, a unique experience where visitors can purchase locally sourced coffee and traditional sweets while also witnessing the historical process of growing and crafting coffee. This segment allows for a deeper appreciation of the region’s heritage, showcasing how life used to be lived in the past, particularly in the quaint plantation setting and the workshops where crafts like quilting are still created after decades.

As we venture further south towards Topo, we reach the iconic Ilheu do Topo, accompanied by the lighthouse and viewpoint of Faja de São João. Alongside this, we explore the scenic vista of Faja de São Joaquim, featuring Manadas, Terreiros, Urzelina, and Queimada. Our return journey begins at Velas, where we conclude our tour with a visit to the viewpoint of Manadas, offering a mesmerizing panorama of these coastal regions.

This comprehensive tour can commence from different locations on the island, tailored according to specific preferences and schedules. Itinerary details may vary based on group interests and timing considerations. Two of the island's most renowned beaches, along with additional attractions and sites, are included in the final stages of the tour.
