Self-guided challenging hiking from Simatai West to Gubeikou

This itinerary offers an exciting yet challenging hike lasting a full 24 hours, featuring numerous inclines and descents with substantial elevation changes. Participants should expect rigorous physical exertion and prepare themselves mentally for a strenuous adventure.

Please pick up you at your Beijing hotel at 7:00 am and proceed to drive 2.5 hours towards Simatai West. Upon arrival, a 40-minute walk will lead you to the East-Five-Eye Watchtower situated at Simatai West (Jinshanling East). Before reaching the wall, take a moment to breathe deeply; the stunning panoramic view awaits you. From the top of the wall, enjoy the breathtaking sight of Simatai, Jinshanling, and Gubeikou as they appear clearly in a clear day.

Walking primarily on the brick steps within the Jinshanling section, note the large watchtowers, beacon towers, and other robust structures. The stairs rise continuously, presenting a changing scenery with each watchtower. Pause briefly to capture these magnificent views, then continue toward Jinshanling.

Cross over Shalingkou and Zhuanduokou, exiting the wall at Taochunkou after a brief detour. Proceeding downhill along the hilly trail for approximately one hour, stop at the cottage at the Jinshanling West Gate for a refreshing break. Afterward, traverse through the dense jungle for about half an hour. Rejoin the wall at the 24-Eye Watchtower at Gubeikou, where the distant Tiger Hill can be seen under favorable weather conditions.

The remaining 1.5-hour journey continues on a relatively flat path leading to the Dragon Hill. Your driver is awaiting you upon completion of the Gubeikou trip. Drive back to Beijing, covering a total of 2.5 hours.
