Embark on an exploration of the captivating Crater of Maragua, a natural wonder characterized by its diverse geological features that have been shaped through eons of earth's evolution. This unique location has witnessed the passage of prehistoric times, with dinosaur footprints etched into the rock, and today serves as the heartland for the Jalqa community.
On the inaugural day (lunch and dinner included), participants will assemble at the principal gate of Estadio Patria at 8:00 am. Following their departure, they will embark on a public transit journey towards Chataquila, with the duration expected to range based on passenger volume. During the morning hours, travelers will traverse the Inca Trail, including sites such as Chaunaca and Socapampa. Their afternoon itinerary includes walking from Socapampa to the Maragua Crater, where they will spend the initial night. A local artisan will be engaged to demonstrate traditional weaving techniques specific to the community.
For the second day (breakfast and lunch included), participants commence their adventure early in the morning by trekking from accommodation to the dinosaur footprints in Niño Mayo. Subsequently, they proceed to a lesser-known village known as Chullpas, followed by an ascent into the mountainous region to reach the Potolo community. Here, they will utilize public transportation for the journey to Sucre.
The estimated distance from the lodging to the dinosaur footprints is approximately 17 kilometers. The wait time for returning to Sucre may fluctuate due to variable bus schedules; however, arriving before 1 p.m. at the Potolo community is recommended. The anticipated arrival time in Sucre ranges from approximately 4 to 6 PM.
