Tour Description

The tour commences upon arrival at the designated location or transportation hub, facilitated by our experienced team who will conduct a briefing session prior to departure. Upon reaching the hacienda Tambopata Lodge, participants will engage in a comprehensive orientation session regarding the itinerary and any necessary preparations.

Upon arrival, luggage should be carefully organized and packed for storage, ensuring only essential items are carried throughout the expedition. A land transfer vehicle equipped with wheelchairs will be utilized for approximately two hours to reach the banks of the Tambopata River. Alternatively, travelers may opt for a longer journey via water, lasting up to six hours, contingent on travel conditions.

Following the transfer, guests will embark on a scenic cruise aboard a traditional wooden vessel along the Tambopata River. This excursion offers a unique perspective of the surrounding flora and fauna, providing opportunities to observe various animal species including amphibians, mammals, reptiles, and captivating insect life.

Throughout the day, a guided walk through the dense rainforest will offer participants the chance to witness wildlife in its natural environment. Highlights include encounters with macaws, parrots, and other avian inhabitants of the region.

For those seeking an unforgettable experience, the morning's journey to the world-renowned El Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick is an integral part of the itinerary. This activity involves a leisurely boat ride lasting approximately one hour, during which visitors can marvel at thousands of colorful parrots and macaws congregating around the site.

Upon returning to the lodge, participants will enjoy a sumptuous breakfast or lunch, catering to varying dietary preferences. Following a brief rest period, the group will board a boat bound for Puerto Maldonado. During this journey, they will disembark at Monte Amazonico Lodge, a picturesque retreat nestled within the heart of the Amazon Rainforest.

Post-lunch, the boat voyage continues, transporting passengers back to Puerto Maldonado. From there, they will proceed to the port, where a high-speed ferry will whisk them across the Madre de Dios River, arriving safely at their lodging.

As the sun sets, guests will embark on a thrilling adventure, embarking on a quest to locate elusive caimans amidst the sandy banks of the river. To aid in their pursuit, participants are encouraged to bring a reliable flashlight. Additionally, sightings of white alligators and possibly even capybaras might also occur, requiring caution due to their potential presence near the shorelines.

Upon completing their exploration, participants will return to the lodge, where a delicious meal awaits them. Throughout the day, our knowledgeable guides will share insights and anecdotes from their extensive experiences, enriching the overall learning experience.

Day 3 Overview

The morning begins with a hearty breakfast, followed by an exhilarating trek through the dense jungle, leading to Lake Sandoval, known for its piranha-rich waters. Participants will navigate a serene rowboat through the tranquil waters, encountering numerous bird species such as shansho cormorants, jacanas, and pumas, among others.

This excursion concludes with a visit to a colony of giant river otters, whose size makes them particularly noteworthy. These creatures, though endangered, provide an educational highlight of the area's conservation efforts.

Returning to the lodge, participants will indulge in a traditional lunch prepared by local chefs, incorporating indigenous ingredients and culinary traditions.

Later in the day, the boat will once again set sail, taking the group back to Puerto Maldonado. The return journey will involve traversing the same route as earlier, concluding with a smooth transfer to the airport terminal.
