Treasures of Eastern Serbia shared tour on Saturdays

Explore Eastern Serbia, which harbors an undiscovered gem within its natural landscapes – a captivating blend of unique flora and fauna alongside rich cultural heritage and authentic culinary delights.

During this tour, visitors will explore Manasija Monastery – also known as Resava, a Serbian Orthodox monastery situated near Despotovac town. Founded by Despot Stefan Lazarevic between 1406 and 1418, the monastic complex is renowned for its architectural significance and cultural value. Dedicated to the Holy Trinity, the church stands out as one of the most prominent monuments of medieval Serbian artistry.

The Resava Cave, a marvel of nature, extends over a total length of 4.5 kilometers but is currently accessible up to approximately 800 meters underground. This subterranean wonder is estimated to be around 80 million years old and maintains a constant temperature of 7°C, complemented by varying air humidity levels ranging from 80% to 100%.

One of the most striking aspects of the Resava Cave is its intricate network of chambers, canals, galleries, columns, stalactites, stalagmites, and naturally formed waterfalls. These unique geological formations contribute significantly to the cave’s allure, earning it the title of “beauty from the Resava.”

Adjacent to the Resava Cave lies the Lisine waterfall, which, despite being the highest in Serbia at 25 meters tall, was previously considered the country’s highest point. Its picturesque location attracts tourists eager to immerse themselves in its serene surroundings, including a variety of local delicacies such as freshly caught trout and grilled meat specialties.

Another notable feature of this region is the Krupaj Springs, a testament to the area’s natural wonders. Forming a lake on the surface and offering a captivating glimpse into the surrounding forest, these springs combine both hot and cold waters, creating a harmonious blend of therapeutic benefits. Nearby, a strong thermal spring with a water temperature of 26.50°C adds to the mystical ambiance, valued as a natural heritage of national importance.
