Embark on an immersive journey through time with Claire and Jamie as we explore the enchanting world of Outlander during a two-day guided tour.
Day 1
Our inaugural expedition commences with a visit to Midhope Castle, an imposing structure dating back to the 15th century. Situated externally, this stronghold retains much of its original architectural integrity; however, upon entering, visitors encounter ruins within, indicative of neglect and disrepair. Our journey then transitions towards Blackness Castle, perched above the Firth of Forth. Historically significant, Blackness served as the setting for Fort William, enhancing its allure as a picturesque destination. Proceeding further north, we reach Doune Castle, more commonly referred to as Castle Leoch, serving as the residence of the Clan Mackenzie. This historic fortification has been immortalized in films such as "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," underscoring its enduring legacy.
Continuing our exploration, we venture deep into the heart of the Highlands, traversing Glen Coe. A notable feature along this route is Loch Ness, an iconic body of water renowned worldwide. Upon arrival, we settle into our overnight accommodations in Inverness, ready to embark on another captivating adventure tomorrow.
Day 2
Embarking on yet another memorable day, we commence our journey by visiting Clava Cairns, a prehistoric monument thought to have inspired the fictional site of Craigh na Dun. Following this, we proceed to the Culloden Battlefield, where the final conflict fought on British soil took place. The historical significance of this battlefield continues to captivate audiences, particularly during the reenactments and exhibits available at the Highland Folk Museum. We conclude our day with a visit to Falkland Village, a living history experience that transports us back in time. Here, we witness the pivotal moment depicted in "Outlander" where Jamie Fraser's ghost gazes upwards from Claire's bedroom, creating a poignant interplay between past and present. Our concluding destination lies in Culross, a charming village that bears resemblance to the fictional town of Cranesmuir. We allocate an hour to explore the streets of Culross, immersing ourselves in the authentic ambiance of a Scottish village, preparing us for the evening ahead.
