Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Rabbie\'s Small Group Tours

Discover an exclusive four-day journey to the "Queen of the Isles," featuring the Whisky Coast. Islay boasts eight of Scotland’s top malt whisky distilleries, offering a taste of its rich peat-flavored spirits. Explore the island’s captivating landscapes and delve into its storied past.

Day 1

Departing from Edinburgh, travelers embark on a journey towards the majestic Highlands. Upon arrival in Trossachs National Park, visitors are greeted by stunning natural beauty and local culinary delights. A knowledgeable driver-guide shares Scottish folklore while traversing the rugged Western Highlands. This scenic route leads them to Oban, once a site of conflict among rival clans but now celebrated for its fresh seafood and artisanal whisky produced at the nearby distillery.

Arrival in Oban marks the beginning of a memorable experience. Guests are invited to sample the local cuisine and indulge in a leisurely meal featuring freshly caught fish. Following this, they proceed to Kilmartin Glen, an archaeological treasure trove revealing remnants of ancient stone structures and fortified settlements spanning nearly 1,500 years.

The next leg of their adventure takes them aboard the evening ferry bound for Islay, a picturesque island renowned for its maritime history. Their destination includes the famous Paps of Jura, a landmark guiding them toward the Queen of the Hebrides—Islay itself. Upon landing, guests find themselves nestled amidst the verdant landscape of Islay Island.

Day 2

Embarking on Day 2, travelers awaken refreshed after a restful night. They commence their exploration with a leisurely breakfast followed by a guided tour of Bowmore Distillery, one of the oldest operational distilleries in Scotland. During their visit, participants engage in both a tour and a sampling session, providing insights into the craft of producing whisky.

Following this enlightening experience, the group heads to Kilchoman Distillery, another significant player in Islay’s whiskey production scene. Known for its Single Farm Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Kilchoman stands out for its unique blend of barley grown locally and bottled in full compliance with tradition. After enjoying a delightful lunch, travelers venture forth to the third and final distillery of the day, Bruichladdich. Specializing in unpeated whiskies, this distillery offers a unique sensory experience with distinct flavors derived from its location.

Returning to Bowmore, travelers can choose between settling down for the night or indulging further in the local atmosphere. The village buzzes with activity during this period, offering numerous opportunities for exploration and relaxation.

Day 3

On Day 3, travelers embark on a diverse itinerary centered around the southern shores of Islay. Their first stop is Ardbeg*, a testament to the region's rich heritage and cultural significance. Here, they participate in a guided tour and tasting session, allowing them to appreciate the complexities of this iconic whisky brand.

Their second destination is Laphroaig*, a cherished institution within the Royal Family, distinguished by the presence of the Prince of Wales’s emblem. Throughout the afternoon, they witness the architectural splendor of Kildalton Church and Dunyvaig Castle, relics of centuries past that stand as silent witnesses to the island’s storied history.

As the sun begins to set, travelers reach Lagavulin, renowned for its intense, robust flavor profile. Each sip promises a satisfying combination of smokiness and richness, ensuring a memorable encounter with this beloved spirit.

Concluding their day, travelers return to Bowmore, ready for a well-deserved break or to delve deeper into the charming village life.

Guided by their experienced guide, they traverse picturesque landscapes en route to Inveraray, located along the banks of Loch Fyne. This enchanting village boasts a wealth of historical architecture, quaint boats, and a thriving whisky trade.
